Jamaican me crazy!

Montego Bay Jamaica, October 2016

This would be the first time i’d do a large group vacation. And when i say large I mean there were 42 of us in the group.

We arrived at the resort (which is only about 10 minutes from the airport). And checked in. My partner and I ended up upgrading our room because why not. The resort is quite large and we ended up having a room in the far back corner.

The resort itself is pretty nice and since it was October there were very few children around (the few that were there were from Europe).

There are several bars around the resort and they boast a 24 hour ‘sports bar’ that serves drinks and light snacks (nachos and hot dogs) all day and all night. There is a swim up bar in the pool (my favorite) and there is a Jerk Chicken shack right on the beach ( i believe it’s only open from 11am-4pm so get there! The chicken was amazing.

As far as all inclusive resorts go their food was pretty good. They have several different dining options from buffet’s to sit down menu restaurants.

There is nightly entertainment in the stage area next to the lobby and the staff is mostly friendly. And of course, for those that are 420 friendly, there are guys in boats and guys on the beach who are more than happy to sell you some ganja.

We did however have one small issue with some possible homophobia. With the upgrade of my room came a lovely view of the beach (on the first floor). One evening my partner and I were relaxing on the couch in our room, i had my arm around her and we were watching a movie. our patio curtains were open but the door was closed and locked. The room phone rings and I get up to answer it. This is the conversation that ensued

Me: Hello

Her: Hi this is the security office is everyone okay?

Me: Yes we’re fine why do you ask

Her: we received a report that your outside facing door was wide open please close it and close the curtains for your safety

Me: Okay, thanks

So I walk over to the door and tug on it and its completely locked but its late in the evening so with the lights on anyone outside can see in our room. It took me a few minutes to gather that she was calling to tell us to close the curtains because somebody was uncomfortable with two women hugged up on the couch.

I posted this story  in my TripAdvisor review and the hotel responded with an apology, continuing that they want their property to be open and welcome to everyone. There were some interesting stares and head-shakes from some of the grounds staff which made holding my girlfriends hand around the resort pretty uncomfortable (we are not at all big on PDA, mind you).

Overall the experience was okay, we spent a lot of time in our big group so that minimized awkward interactions.

Oh and there were like 5 baby cats roaming the place, they’re cute! If you like kittens.
